Try Something New

This year I have decided to make a few resolutions or goals. One of them (there are many) is to cook more meals for my family and try to eat out only once a month. Now if you know me, you know how difficult this will be for me. I’m more of a baker than a cook, but seeing that I can’t feed my family cookies and brownies for lunch and dinner, I’m going to have to stretch myself. I’ve tried a few recipes on Pinterest and some, more than others, have made it on the FAILED board. However, this goal of mine will benefit my family in many ways; such as financially, eating healthier and creating memories in the kitchen with my girls, are just a few. But it’s funny how I easily become distracted by how busy I am or discouraged by my failed dinners that I quickly want to resort to the easy way out– take-out tacos!

This is how we are with the Lord at times. He may have placed something in your heart for you to get rid of or maybe to start doing—something that will stretch you. Being obedient to this will bring blessings to you and those around you.  But so many times we take the easy way out and do what is comfortable and convenient.

I love this verse in Isaiah: “This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, ‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’” (Isaiah 43:16, 18-19, NIV)

The Lord says to forget the former things and do not dwell on the past. He wants to do a new thing in us! That’s exciting! But in order to have the new, we must let go of the old. The old hurts, the old anger, the old ways (eating out for me). Sometimes the Lord may be asking you to serve in an area or do something that is “Not your personality.” Well, do it anyway. That way you can look back and say, “That was not me, but God in me.”  Whether it’s greeting or talking to the teens or whatever He’s asking of you! I challenge you this year to allow God to do something NEW IN YOU! Do not allow your past or your failures determine your future. And no more take-out tacos for your life or mine! 🙂

Happy New Year!
