Take a Leap of Faith

…take a leap of faith, cast away your doubt… the first steps always the hardest one to take…-Lionel Cartwight

It’s easy to get stuck in a routine, doing the same thing over and over again. You do what’s comfortable and what you know. You may desire to do something new, but you let fear get in the way of taking that first step in a new direction. When God sets a new direction for your life, it’s easy to get scared. The “what if’s” pop into your head…“what if it doesn’t work?”, “what if I quit my job and I don’t get another one?”, “what if I fail?” What if, what if, what if. What if’s will drive you crazy and can cause you to never make the leap that God is calling you to make; which also means you could be missing out on something amazing that God has planned just for you.

However, before you go out and quit your job or make drastic changes in your life, you need to be sure that this is what God is calling you to do. First, you pray about it, asking God to open your ears, eyes and heart to what He has for you. You need to listen to Him, really listen to Him and don’t be scared by what He tells you. He will never lead you astray or into danger. Then, fast. When you strip away the things you cling to whether it is electronic gadgets, food, alcohol or whatever and focus all that energy on God, He will show up in a big way and do a mighty movement in your life. Finally, dive into the Word, 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” The Bible states we don’t have to worry because God will take care of us. Allow God to reveal His plan through His word, and trust that word because His Word is the absolute TRUTH!

Now I know it’s scary to take that first step in a new direction, to leave what you know and try something new. I’m about to make the biggest jump without a net of my life. But I haven’t made this decision hastily. I have been in constant prayer about it, I have sought out mentors to talk through it and I have opened my Bible to read what God has for me. And while it is scary, Proverbs 3: 5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.” I am at complete peace about the decision I am making and my trust is solely in the Lord to open new doors and provide for me. But the peace I feel is only from God and only through prayerful consideration.

Now it’s your turn to open your eyes, ears and your heart to what God has in store for you. Maybe it’s confirmation to stay on the path you’re on or it’s time to jump off the deep end into something completely new. As Pastor Shelly said in her Mother’s Day sermon, “Don’t let our past or distractions stop us from seeing the brand new plan God has for us.” Isaiah 43:19 says, “Forget about what’s happened don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand new!”

Trust God, go out and take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway!

Editor’s Note: Bobbie Jo took her leap of faith and it paid off in a B-I-G way!!!  Maybe she’ll share it with us in her June blog! 🙂

  1. YAY for you, Bobbie Jo! Keep trusting, reaching, and looking up. His plans for us are even bigger than our plans for us. 🙂
