As we did last year, we are posting information on the different Breakout Speakers and sessions at our Awaken Women’s Retreat in October. If you’d like more information, please click on the Awaken 2015 tab. All the details are located there! We’d love to have you if you haven’t signed up, have been every year or have never been!
Our breakout speaker for this week is Valerie Williams.
Valerie’s class is titled, “Pursuing Purity” and the information for her class is as follows, “The bravery of Ruth is an example that we, whether single or married, can also live as women called by God to have a heart of obedience and purity. In this session, you’ll learn how to be brave like Ruth.”
We asked Valerie a few questions about her breakout session and her responses are below.
AW: Valerie, you’re teaching a class that’s directed at high school and college-age girls, yet a topic that can be for all women on purity. Why is it important to discuss purity across the ages?
VW: Everywhere we turn we see the media influencing us to behave in ways that are far from God’s intended purpose for his beloved daughters; heirs to the kingdom.
Ruth was on verge of losing everything and clinging to the only hope she knew would never waver. She cried out a BRAVE plea, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” In the midst of her circumstances, Ruth found hope.
Whether single or married, we are all called by God to live a life of loyalty to Him with a heart of obedience and purity. Ruth is a great example of what living a life of purity should look like. Purity is not simply remaining a virgin; it is a reflection of Christ through us. In our singleness, in a dating relationship or in our marriage, it is important for us to face the daily trials and temptations with a wholesome heart, always reflecting purity in our actions and reactions!
AW: What do you hope that young women will take away from your class?
VW: My prayer is that we will have hearts of purity to reflect Christ in our daily lives. That we will be ready to fight against the impurities of the world with the Word that heals and delivers!
AW: Anything else about your topic or class that you’d like to share with the ladies?
VW: Don’t forget to bring your spiritual boxing gloves, “For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4). Let’s expect God to open our hearts to receive what He has for us so we can overcome by the power of His blood and the word of our testimony!
Thanks Valerie!! 🙂
Valerie’s breakout session will be on Friday morning at 11:00 am.
