Mother’s Day is only a few days away. This day has the ability to elicit cheers of joy, but also tears of sadness. And while there’s significance to this day for everyone, I’d like to focus on what this day can be for any woman in any season of her life.
To the Grandmother…you’ve seen it all. You raised your children, watched them grow into adults and now enjoy spoiling all your grandchildren. You set the course for your family. You did the hard stuff and used it to teach lessons to your kids as they grew up. And now you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Thank you to all the grandmothers for all you’ve done and for giving us all something to aspire to.
To the Mom…you’re living the dream. Regardless if you have a single child or eight, you’re knee-deep into the life that was paved for you by the women that came before you. There are many sleepless nights and undoubtedly no end in sight; there are ranges of emotions, sometimes going through every single one in a single day. But the one constant that remains, is that you wouldn’t trade this moment for any other. Look to the ones that have gone before you for guidance, and be a helping hand to the ones that will come after you. Set the course and enjoy the ride!
To the Mom-to-be…your time is coming. This is either a season of great joy and anticipation for what’s to come or possibly a time of sadness and mourning or loss. And although the celebration of this day can be good or painful, there are many reasons for you to not lose hope. There are the women who’ve gone before you and can help you prepare and celebrate your joyous season. And there are friends beside you to comfort and console you when this season isn’t as fun as you had hoped. Regardless of what this season holds for you, remember to stretch out your hand for help, but keep an eye out for those seeking your guidance and encouragement.
To the Single Woman…your dreams are within reach. Whether you’re a young single woman or an older one; whether you long to have children of your own someday or maybe you don’t, there’s still celebration on this day for you. Women have the ability to effectuate loving relationships with everyone around them. There may be young children, teenagers or peers that look to you with affection and love. They look to you for what you provide for them: a sense of belonging, someone to look up to, a mentor or someone that loves them unconditionally. Stand tall and be proud of this season in your life. As you admire the women who’ve gone before you, look to the ones behind you and show them how to succeed.
To the Young Daughter…you have a great legacy to uphold. It may seem like a giant task, something unreachable…something unattainable. But don’t dismay, because ahead of you are great women who have walked the path and will teach you and guide you in each step that you will take. Look to those women, whether within your family or outside of it, because there will always be a woman ready to take your hand and help you succeed.
No matter what season you’re in, there will always be someone looking to you for encouragement, leadership and love. Women are designed by God with a great capacity to nurture, a great capacity for love, and a deep desire for meaningful relationships. Open your heart to the possibilities – and watch how God can use you to help the women around you fully realize His unique plan for them.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness…Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.” —Proverbs 31:26-27, 30 (NLT)
